WTC 2023-25: England have recorded a series victory over West Indies in the ongoing 3-match Test series, as the home side, with their emphatic win in the 2nd Test match, now take an unassailable 2-0 lead. Ben Stokes’ men shrugged aside their horrendous tour of India, where they were brutally beaten 4-1 by the home side, to bounce back in the red-ball cricket, and with the win, they have taken a huge leap in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings.

England, before the start of the series, were languishing at the foot of the table with 21 points and 3 wins in their 10 matches. However, with their two wins in a row, they now move up in the table and leapfrog the likes of West Indies, South Africa, and Bangladesh to the 6th spot.

England are in dire need of victories in all of their remaining Test matches in the current WTC cycle to ensure a place in the final, and if they do so, it will be nothing short of a miracle.

For West Indies, it is a big concern, as their sole victory in the current WTC cycle came in that historic Test match against Australia at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane, where a debutant Shamar Joseph pulled off an improbable win out of the jaws of defeat, and the Caribbeans were indeed, really lucky to win that Test match.

Luck will not always come into play, as performance on all fronts is needed to dominate the red-ball format, and given their current state, a WTC final now seems like a distant dream for Kraigg Brathwaite’s side.
