Son Heung-min’s price of £10.0m means the Tottenham Hotspur star will cost exactly the same as Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka at the start of 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League.
Son increases by £1.0m from the beginning of 2023/24 after he returned to form with 17 goals, 10 assists and 213 points in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of Spurs.
The South Korean has become the latest addition to the premium midfielder bracket.
There are now six midfielders priced at £9.5m or more in Fantasy this season. Along with Son and Saka, managers also have Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Chelsea star Cole Palmer (£10.5m) and Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne (both £9.5m) to choose from.
Added to the record-breaking £15.0m price tag of Man City forward Erling Haaland and it’s fair to say that managers face a tough decision to make on how they distribute funds through their squads.
While there are many ways to build a squad around Haaland, Salah and Palmer, for example, their combined cost of £38.0m means you will need to make big sacrifices across the remainder of your starting XI.
Having produced his third 200+ point campaign in the last four seasons, Son is a proven performer in Fantasy. He was among eight players to record at least eight hauls of 10+ points in 2023/24. SEVEN of them were midfielders, with Haaland the exception.
Notably, Salah, Palmer, Saka and Foden also feature on that list.
Most double-figure hauls in 2023/24
Player | Total |
---|---|
Palmer | 10 |
Odegaard, Saka, Salah | 9 |
Foden, Haaland, Rodri, Son | 8 |
Son’s early appeal as a midfield pick is also boosted by his lack of international commitments over the summer, in contrast to England trio Palmer, Saka and Foden.
His ability to deliver big scores shows why Son could immediately reward managers as an armband alternative in the first two Gameweeks alone. Spurs visit promoted Leicester City in the opening round of matches before hosting Everton the following weekend.
