Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney 'register interest' in investing in another sports team alongside Wrexham

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are looking to add to their sporting empire with another investment.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have registered an interest in purchasing another sports team to go along with their duties at Wrexham.

The Hollywood stars purchased the Red Dragons in February 2021 following lengthy conversations with the Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST), who ultimately voted in favour.

They have more than doubled their investment in the club and have overseen back-to-back promotions to League One during their tenure.

Wrexham are a huge hit in the United States thanks to the duo and the hit documentary.

The pair are part of an investment group involved in the Alpine Formula One team and Mexican football club Necaxa.

However, fresh reports claim that they are eyeing up up another sporting investment.

The Telegraph say that Reynolds and McElhenney have held talks with the ECB about buying a cricket franchise in the Hundred.

They are interested in buying Welsh Fire, based in Cardiff and likely the cheapest club to acquire.

Following a number of meetings, the plan is for acting double act to attend a game in person to get a proper feel for the project.

While the Fire Franchise is seen as the cheapest team, Reynolds and McElhenney will still have to fork out around £20 million to become owners, with 49 per cent stakes up for grabs.

The ECB, who have Deloitte and the Raine Group working as advisors as them, are looking to raise £500 million from potential investments.

There are eight teams competing in The Hundred and in September, stakes in every one will be up for grabs.

The process will be like an auction for three months and it’s hoped more funds can be raised to improve the quality of the league.

Already the Glazer family, Red Bull and Knighthead Capital, who own Birmingham alongside Tom Brady, are all named as potential investors.
