When is the next full moon?

The next full moon will be on Monday, Aug. 19 at 2:26 p.m. EDT (1826 GMT.) The moon will still appear full the night before and after its peak to the casual stargazer.

August’s full moon will appear slightly larger than normal and is known as a supermoon. Supermoons occur when the full moon coincides with the moon being at the point in its orbit closest to Earth, called Perigee.

The August full moon is also known as the Sturgeon Moon because sturgeons are more easily caught in August and early September.
